There is a Facebook page set up for everyone who wants to see the Station, a state of the art youth facility in the centre of Bristol happen. At the moment the Department of Education is reviewing the £5m My Place grant.

Glowing Report for Arts4Life Courses
An indendent evaluation report carried out by the University of the West of England on the Kingswood Foundation's performance and arts intevention programme 'Arts4Life' concluded the programme was highly rated and highly successful.

News from Estates 09/07/10

  • Sam our Estates Officer is still in Thailand contact us if you want to track him on his blog.
  • The roofing works on Studios 1 and 2 is now complete and will not only give us a leak free roof but decrease our carbon footprint as an organisation due to insulation.
  • Work to the Old Boiler House will be completed shortly and has been renamed ‘Acorn House’.
  • KIDS will be moving into Acorn House on the 1st August and we wish them well in their new home.

Calling all young musicians in the Kingswood area! Urban Academy Music Master-Class 2010
From Monday 30th August to Friday 3rd September the Urban Academy is running a free, week-long music master-class.  It is aimed at anyone aged 14-19 who is interested in making music.  The project culminates in a live performance at The Main Event, an award winning music and performing arts festival, on Saturday 4th September 2010. The week will run from 10am to 5.00pm each day and be based at the Kingswood Foundation on Britannia Road, Kingswood.

On your bike!!  Free breakfast for cyclists Fri 30th July, 2010
Thanks to the generosity of Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire County Council the Kingswood Foundation is to hold a cycling day on Friday 30th July for users, staff, tenants and the local community. Any tenants, staff or users who cycle to the Foundation on the Friday before 10.00am will be eligible for a free cycling breakfast in the café from 8.30am until 10.00am. There will be a cycling roadshow for most of the day and Dr Bike will be on hand to check your bikes out and to recommend any maintenance that is needed for FREE. At lunch time there will be a Free Barbeque for all those who ride their bikes to the Foundation and Remix are organising for live music to be played for two hours over lunch time. This is going to be a fantastic event with fantastic food and hundreds of bikes.  Come join in the fun!
 
Self Contained Office Complex available to rent immediately – Discounts for charities or youth focused organisations
Mary Carpenter House is a self contained office complex on the Kingswood Foundation site in Bristol.  It has its own dedicated kitchen, toilet, shower and small garden. The office space is light and modern and can be configured in a number of different ways. Dragon Boat Race: Sunday 13th June 2010 - Raising Money for the Station
The Rotary Club of Bristol Breakfast held their annual Dragon Boat Festival, at Baltic Wharf in the Bristol Docks on Sunday.  Their chosen charity this year was The Station, a £5.75m partnership project that will deliver a world class facility for young people in the South West.  The Station will be based at the old Fire Station in Bristol and will boast state of the art music and radio studios, a theatre, dance studio, a cycle/skate workshop, a café and much more.  Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Colin Smith spent some time talking to Sandy who is heading up the Myplace bid on behald of The Kingswood Foundation.

The Main Event is a music and performing arts festival which showcases the very best of Bristol’s home-grown talent.  Organised by Youth4Youth, this year’s festival will be held on 4th September, at the Kingswood Foundation.  With The Blackout headlining tickets will be selling out fast.

Youth4Youth looking for summer festival acts, artists and volunteers!

Come along and see the work produced by the Arts4Life students at the Kingswood Foundation.
 
A4L works with young people at risk of exclusion from school.  It aims to build their self esteem and life skills enabling them to re-engage with learning, their families and society at large.

For anyone who is interested in film. It's free and open to anyone aged between 13 and 19. The Film Crew will be working on a variety of film and media projects, with opportunities to learn about acting, camera-work and sound recording, editing, writing and more.

News from Estates 25/5/10

  • Old Boiler House, work should be completed by the end few weeks and it looks like we have tenants for the entire space.
  •  Work has been going well on Studio 5 it will be completed by the end of June and will include a chill out room and an additional office for the Projects team.
  • The work on the roofs of Studio 1and 2 starts this week so no more leaks!
  • Kingsway Youth Club is now part of the Foundation thanks to the generosity of Bristol City Council and work starts on a total refurbishment this week and will be completed by the end of June.
  • The Bike shed whilst not 100% completed yet has proved a great hit, watch this space for the grand opening which will include a bike roadshow, free breakfast for cyclists and a bike maintenance workshop.
 
Premix Closes for Summer Renovations
Fri 9th April saw the last Premix until the end of summer due to major renovations being done to the studio space.  Keep checking the Youth 4 Youth website or join their Facebook Page to find out the date of the relaunch party.
 
 

 
Youth 4 Youth win yet more awards!

The Kingswood Foundation Urban Academy of the Arts is now running.

The Philip Lawrence awards at the most prestigious youth work awards in the UK.

Fusion Dance - Will start again on the 5th November at 4.30pm
The group is meeting every Thursday evening in Studio 1 of the Kingswood Foundation at 5pm.  The group is open to anyone between 11-19 and will be working towards performances during the year.  The group will be working with nationally renowned artist CLeo Lake. Aardman animations and the Bristol Old vic young company will be at the heart of this years summer masterclasses for young people at the Kingswood Foundation. 
Ian Whitlock (a senior animator at Aardmans) and Ian Tidbury (Director of the Bristol Old Vic young company) will be running master classes during two weeks of workshops for young people.  The Performing arts week begins on the 17-21st August and a visual arts week between 24-28th August.  For more information and to book a place please contact the Kingswood Foundation office.  Cost £50 per week (open to 13-19 years old).  Subsidised places are available.  The enquiry form can be downloaded here.

Premix!! - Next date to be confirmed

15 Young people have made 5 films with the BBC to be screened next week.
15 young people from dissadvantaged backgrounds have been working with BBC producers, directors, cameramen and actors to produce 5 films.  With the support of the Kingswood Foundation the young people have scripted and produced the films that were shown on the 19th May at the BBC studios in front of an invited audience. 2 Young volunteers in Youth 4 Youth have won 'Young VOlunteer of the year award' in South Gloucestershire.
Rhiannon Hunter (19) was given the award by South Gloucestershire Council for coordinating youth 4 youth for 2 years.  She met with the Chair and leaders of the Council to receive her award.

Youth 4 Youth the main event!!
If you are between 13-25 and want to get involved in organising this years main event then come along to the Kingswood Foundation - we meet on Thursdays at 6pm.   We expect over 2000 people to come to Youth 4 Youth - the biggest youth arts event in Bristol! It's hard work and we are looking for dedicated volunteers to help out.  We provide training and support and you will get loads of experience and contacts.  Most of all though - you'll have fun.

Hip Hop Classes on Mondays
  
Local dancer Ben Nash is running Hip Hop and Breakdance sessions for all ages from 5pm on Mondays in Studio 1.  It's part of the national B Boy circle.  Classes run between 5-8pm every Monday.  Just turn up and have a go.
 
 
 
 
 
  
The Youth 4 Youth team were invited to London as finalists in this years Shine 09 (sponsored by the Youth Action Network and T-Mobile.

The Kingswood Foundation has teamed up with the Media Trust and the BBC in Bristol to bring you a unique 7 week course in film making.
Young People between the ages of 14 and 21 can take part starting on the 24th February.  We are particularly looking for young people who've had a hard start in life and who wouldn't have been able to take a chance like this before.  If this is you, or you know someone who would be interested please call the Kingswood Foundation office.  Or for more information click here.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Don't let it go to waste.
 
   
 
 
Kingswood's got talent
  
It was great to see over 1000 people at our show in the Kingswood shopping centre.  Marrissa Billeteri from the X factor helped GWR switch on the lights in the shopping centre.  The evening showed off the best of our talent in Kingswood including The Fourtones, World champion Irish dancers, Hip hop crew, internationally renowned Ten Sing and our very own Antony James! 
 
  
 Youth 4 Youth - 13th September 2008 - was an amazing success

Nearly 1000 people came to this years event despite Royworld cancelling at the last minute.  The sun shone and everyone had a great time watching the bands and taking part in a range of workshops and activities.  Bush and Troy from GWR Bristol presented the Fuel with the Y4Y factor Prize and the whipped up a storming performance to finish the day.  The Pictures are now up - click below to check them out!! Here's to 2009!!
